A couple of weeks ago on a wet morning I was very lucky, or my Guardian Angels were looking out for me big time.
As I drove round a round-about I lost control of the car as it fish-tailed into the left hand lane. Luckily the lane was clear and I managed to regain control of the car. I drove very tentatively for the remainder of my journey. I've thought about what might have caused this - a rear tyre that was very low when I checked it soon after - drizzly rain so the road could have been slippery - I was listening to an audio book on my iphone - headphones in - so not focused on the driving.
What I have really noticed since then is that I have lost confidence - in the car and in my ability to control it. I really feel the lack of confidence when I'm in a similar situation. Back in 1992 I had a similar accident when I lost control of the car on a gravel road I travelled every day to work. It rolled 3 times and I remember the car seemed to be heading for the trees on the side of the road. It ended up on its wheels in the middle of the road with my briefcase, sunglasses and other stuff strewn along the road behind the car. I was ok, lots of little cuts from the broken windscreen made my shirt like a sieve but no cuts on my skin. It took me awhile to go down that road again. I've just realised, I got a different car after that and so never drove it again - like I am now. I guess it'll just take a bit of time and I'll be back driving like I usually do - not taking risks but driving a bit faster than I am now, my nerves settled and my stomach back where it belongs.
This loss of confidence is in contrast to regaining confidence in other areas of my life - especially working with a couple of clients over the last couple of days - I'm feeling more confident than I have for a very long time and it has been noticeable to others. Very strange.

I just remembered, I'm back in blogger mode. It's been a busy day and it's still not finished as I'm reading stuff to be better informed about one of our clients.
One of the books I'm reading, on my ipad, which I just love and I'm wondering how I managed without it, is Words Can Change Your Brain. There's lots of brain research now showing the effects words, relaxation exercises, different communication strategies and lots more have on how we think and behave. I'm passionate about this stuff and it's really interesting how my thinking changes to being more positive even just by reading this book.
This morning I did a couple of relaxation and meditation exercises from the book before I started work and I was better able to focus on what I was doing; I was more creative when I started to write for a client and a major limiting belief that's been around for just a little while, since I was in my middle teens, lost it's grip - for today anyway. Tomorrow is a really early start, so I'll be up early to get the meditation in!
I was going to explain for new readers the name of the blog. It comes from a poem, often mis-attributed to Guillaume Apollinaire but written by Christopher Logue.

Come to the Edge - Christopher Logue
Come to the edge.
We might fall.
Come to the edge.
It's too high!
COME TO THE EDGE!
And they came,
And he pushed,
And they flew.
I first read this poem in about 1997 or thereabouts - I saw it on a card, bought it for myself and stuck it on my wall. The original card is still around somewhere in storage boxes.
Last year it became really significant for me when I was working with Coach Phil Evans of www.peoplestuff.com.au You'll find the poem on the bottom of the home page. There were a few times when Phil pushed me and I flew so it seemed an appropriate name for my blog - for both reasons.
Singing my soul came from a walk one day in Wodonga - writing and walking this particular day my soul sang and it's singing again now I'm back blogging. Till tomorrow!

Yes, it has been awhile since I've written here. I've been prompted by several things. One was realising how far off track I had gone over the last few weeks and making an effort today to get back there in many ways. Another was some people telling me how much they looked forward to my blogs and how they were missing them - thank you Charlie, Ris and Keely. I also realised that I was missing the writing and the commitment to write each day so here I am again.
Yesterday I walked to the beach and it happened to be low tide so I was able to walk south, over the rocks to the next beach. I wandered through the rock pools, took a few photos, relaxed, enjoying the total experience. There was more enjoyment when I returned to the beach - a double scoop of gelati - hazelnut and boysenberry cheesecake - yummo as Bob, and now I, would say.
On Friday night I shared a special bottle of wine with Ris and Scott. Tim sent it to me from Italy for my birthday in 2011. It had been carefully nurtured all that time, lying down as it was sealed with a cork, in the coolest place I could find in Brisbane and since then. I was concerned it had got a bit hot on my travels so I decided to drink it and to share it with friends who would appreciate it as a special wine. And a special wine it was so thank you Tim. I have the bottle sitting here - Vino Nobile di Montepulciano - Riserva 2006.
It looks like I'm settling here in Newcastle - insurances have been transferred to NSW, the car is being repaired so it can be registered in NSW next month, and I'll change everything else over too.
More stuff to do to get myself totally back on track so I'll finish now and write again tomorrow.
